Privacy Policy
Effective date: June 15, 2026
Fretwerk ("Fretwerk," "we," "us," or "our") makes a guitar and bass learning app for iOS, Android, and the web. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using Fretwerk you agree to this policy.
If you have any questions, contact us at support@fretwerk.io.
Information we collect
We collect only what we need to run the app:
- Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address (for sign-in and account recovery) and a display name / username that you choose.
- Practice activity. We record the lessons, practice ("Train") rounds, and games you complete, including timestamps, so we can show your streak, weekly summary, and leaderboard standing.
- Profile preferences. Settings such as your instrument preference (guitar, bass, or both).
We do not collect your real name, phone number, address, payment information, or precise location.
Your microphone
Fretwerk uses your device's microphone for the tuner and for pitch-based practice exercises. Audio from your microphone is processed on your device in real time to detect pitch and is never recorded, stored, or transmitted to us or anyone else. The microphone is only active while you are using a feature that needs it (the tuner or a listening exercise).
How we use your information
- Provide and operate the app (authentication, saving your progress).
- Show your streak, weekly practice summary, and the leaderboard.
- Display your chosen username/display name to other signed-in users on the leaderboard.
- Maintain the security and integrity of the service (for example, filtering inappropriate usernames).
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising. Fretwerk does not include third-party advertising or analytics tracking SDKs.
What other users can see
The leaderboard shows your display name / username, your recent practice counts, and your streak to other signed-in users. Your email address is never shown to other users. Choose a username you are comfortable being public.
How your information is stored
Account and practice data are stored using Supabase, our backend and database provider, which hosts data on secure cloud infrastructure on our behalf. Access is protected by authentication and database security rules. Some app content (such as tabs you create in the Tab Builder) is stored locally on your device.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your account and practice data for as long as your account exists.
You can delete your account at any time from within the app (Profile → Delete Account). Deleting your account permanently removes your profile and your associated practice/activity records from our systems. This action cannot be undone. You may also email support@fretwerk.io to request deletion.
Children's privacy
Fretwerk is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, contact support@fretwerk.io and we will delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you, or to object to certain processing. You can exercise the core of these rights directly through the in-app account deletion, or by contacting support@fretwerk.io.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Effective date" above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continued use of Fretwerk after a change means you accept the updated policy.
